At a press conference in Jerusalem, the European Union called for restarting negotiations on Gaza, stressing the need to curb the escalating violence. The latest surge in conflict has led to devastating uncertainty for hostages and their families, while inflicting severe suffering on the Palestinian population. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas highlighted key priorities during the conference.

Kaja Kallas, EU Foreign Policy chief said  "The fundamental steps here are restating the ceasefire, ensuring the release of all hostages, and resuming the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, with the goal of a permanent ceasefire. The European Union can help, whether through restating our Rafah border-crossing mission, or providing more humanitarian assistance."

The EU also voiced support for the Arab plan to rebuild Gaza, which was discussed in Cairo. While challenges remain regarding cost-sharing and governance, the plan was recognized as a promising foundation for future progress. The EU committed to contributing through renewed missions at the Rafah border and additional humanitarian aid.
