On October 2 and 3, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin and officials inspected oil and gas production at the Pyay oilfield in Bago Region and the Padaung test oil well. They also met with the members of Pyay District Fuel Oil Traders’ Association, and fuel dealers from Padaung and Oakshitpin Townships and inspected fuel distribution and sales.

At the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) meeting hall, the Union Minister and officials heard reports on oilfield operations, drilling and production conditions, joint venture projects with HNA Myanmar Oil & Gas Ltd., and plans to boost output in the 2025-2026 fiscal year. This was followed by the reports on continued oil and gas production in the Pyay Oilfield.

The Union Minister noted that despite being an old field, it holds strong potential for increased output of both oil and natural gas. He said modern technology and equipment would be applied to boost production and instructed officials to strengthen safety and security measures to prevent sabotage of pipelines and storage tanks.

At the onshore block in Padaung Township, the Union Minister and party heard reports on the test well (1) operated jointly by MOGE and the Russian state-owned oil and gas company. He emphasized the need to accelerate exploration and production, expand cooperation with local and foreign firms, and boost output to meet the nation’s energy needs.

They later met officials from the Pyay District Fuel Oil Traders’ Association and fuel dealers from Padaung and Oakshitpin. They also heard reports on fuel distribution, sales conditions and challenges faced by dealers, along with necessary information. The Union Minister said the ministry oversees energy security and self-sufficiency.

He urged fuel dealers to sell at set prices, ensure quality, and follow regulations, while officials must strictly supervise distribution. They later inspected fuel distribution and sales in Pyay and Padaung townships and oversaw fuel quality and consistency using the department’s Mobile Fuel Lab.
