







The Nay Pyi Taw Committee for Women's Affairs on Monday conducted an awareness campaign, marking the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This campaign at the Nay Pyi TawChild Care Center in Zeyathiri Township was joined by chairman of the Committee and member of the Nay Pyi Taw Council U MyintSoe, wife of the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, wives of the members of the Nay Pyi Taw Council and many other officials.
The campaign began with remarks by the Chairman, stressing that protecting women and young girls from all kinds of violence is not only the responsibility of men, but also of society as a whole, and practical processes and effective laws are also needed. Constitutions, by-laws and policies that emphasize equality are important.
Consideration needs to be given to changing social and cultural practices that restrict women from achieving equal opportunities, he added. The Campaign continued with performances by students from the pre-primary schools and children from the Nay Pyi Taw Child Care Center and they were presented with cash awards and gifts.
Also, talks were held on violence against women and laws to protect violence against women, and awareness activities by the Nay Pyi Taw Committee for Women's Affairsto protect women from violence were explained. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
