Efforts for agricultural development: MoALI DM talked on dangers of excessive chemical inputs

While the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is increasing educating and technical disseminating activities for the farmers to understand the agricultural land contaminated actions such as excessive use of chemical pesticides, herbicides and fungicides in the agricultural works, the Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut cordially met with local farmers at 3 acres of winter crops black gram, sunflower plantation owned by U Kyaw Thaung in Khayankine Village-tract of Lewe Township, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 18th February.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister pointed out that the country used to export 3 million of rice per year since before the emergence of chemical fertilizer and pesticides prior to the 2nd World War.

It should be award of those chemical fertilizer and pesticides killed the pollinators such as bees, bumblebees, butterflies and moth which are contributing the pollination process, degrading the soil quality and killed the underground insects such as earthworms which make improvement of soil texture and high cost of expenditure for those chemical fertilizer and pesticides.

Next, the Deputy Minister and agriculture researchers held a talk on the bacteria within the root nodules of black gram which can capture the nitrogen from air, the pests and wasps.

Then, the Deputy Minister gave necessary instruction for the farmers to use the Broad Bed and Furrow System in experiencing untimely rain and other suggestions.
