





A meeting was held on Friday to expand oil crop cultivation, to ensure self-sufficiency in oil consumption and to upgrade oil mills.
In the meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw, Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo stressed the important role of expanding oil crop cultivation, ensuring self-sufficiency in oil consumption and upgrading oil mills not only for the self-sufficiency of domestic consumption but also to meet the current demand for consumption internationally.
He also highlighted the guidance of Chairman of the State Administration Council which is that priority should be given to certain crops to reduce oil consumption, to improve the yield per acre of oilseed crops, to expand farm acreage and to upgrade oil mills.
Committee for expansion of oil crops cultivation and Oil Mill Development Credit Management Group have been formed, he added. The Union Minister also urged attendees to cooperate and draw projects to expand oil crop cultivation, to ensure self-sufficiency in oil consumption and to upgrade oil mills.
The meeting continued with discussions on research, expansion of oil crops cultivation, food safety, reduction of edible oil consumption, current situation of oil mills and upgrade process, investment, cooperative matters, oil sale and trade and edible oil import and market condition.
