A workshop on the dissemination of the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM 2024) Myanmar National Report, introduction of SEA-PLM 2029 and related discussions was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein attended the workshop and urged officials to make effective use of the findings and lessons from the SEA-PLM 2024 and systematically prepare for SEA-PLM 2029 to improve the quality of basic education in Myanmar.
The Union Minister said the 2024 report provides valuable evidence on primary students' learning achievements and the factors affecting their learning. She stressed the importance of using research findings and data to improve education policies, development plans and teaching and learning activities.
She also explained that SEA-PLM 2029 could include two major initiatives: a five-year programme to conduct pilot testing and main assessments for Grade 5 students, and a three-year research programme to strengthen teachers' capacity to improve students' reading and mathematical thinking skills.
Participants also held group discussions on policy, strategic and operational measures based on the recommendations of the SEA-PLM 2024 report. SEA-PLM is a regional assessment programme that measures primary students' reading, writing, mathematics and global citizenship skills. It also helps identify learning challenges and support evidence-based education policies across Southeast Asia.
