ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament allows women for the first time

For the first time, female wrestlers are competing in the ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament, which opens its 13th edition at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

This marked a significant milestone in gender inclusion and sports development in West Africa. The tournament brings together wrestlers from 11 Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Member States and is part of ECOWAS’ 50th Anniversary Celebration. This year's event is also the first since the breakaway of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, who are not represented by any athletes.
