Ecosystem Conservation: Magway Region holds Monsoon Tree-Planting Ceremony

Magway Region Government held the 2022 Monsoon Tree-planting ceremony in Yenanchaung Township area.

During the ceremony at the model 25-acre Tama plantation in the Nat Kan Oo forest reserve, Chief Minister U Tint Lwin said that in the Region, the forest area has gradually decreased due to expansion of urban development projects and agricultural land, increasing demand for wood/coal fuel, mining and illegal timber production.

According to the FAO's FRA 2010 report, only 13.7 % of the region's area remains as forest. He also explained the ongoing forest, ecosystem and environmental conservation works and public awareness campaigns.

Over 1 million trees have been planted in the Region so far, the Chief Minister added and said 75 acres of Tama tree plantation will be implemented in the 2023 monsoon season.

In this moonsoon tree-planting ceremony in Magway Region, 1,500 Tama trees were planted. It’s learnt that currently, in Magway Region, there are 172 forest reserve areas and 4 4 nature conservation areas totaling over 2.8 million acres.

After the tree-growing ceremony, the Chief Minister heard report on the model 100-acre Tama tree plantation and gave necessary instructions.
