Early Warning & Early Action For All: Taninthayi Region marks Int’l Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

A ceremony to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2022 was held in Dawei City Hall in Taninthayi Region on Thursday.

At the event, Taninthayi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko said that the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction Day has been held in Taninthayi region for 8th time and the Regional Natural Disaster Management Committee has been formed to effectively carry out the response measures to natural disasters.

This year’s theme of the ceremony is the “Early Warning and Early Action For All” and the Natural disaster risk reduction activities are widely carried out in the world nations and various sectors are involved in cooperation. The Chief Minister called on the relevant departments, social organizations and the people to actively take part in the emergency response programs.

A video clip sent by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and a documentary video on the efforts of Myanmar Natural Disaster Reduction were shown. The Region Chief Minister and the Chief Justice of the Regional High Court presented awards to the winners in essay competition marking the ceremony.
