EAM Jaishankar pays tribute at Fallen Heroes monument

India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar paid homage at the ‘Monument for the Fallen Heroes’ in Mariënburg of northern Suriname on Wednesday.

Jaishankar honored the sacrifices of indentured laborers who fought for dignity and freedom during the 1902 struggle against colonialism in Suriname. He said their sacrifices continue to inspire the global fight for liberty and justice, alongside countless struggles for freedom in India.

The tribute comes as part of his official engagements in Suriname during this three-nation official visit to the Caribbean nations from May 2 to May 10, where he is participating in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, including cultural and people-to-people ties rooted in shared history.
