Drug Eradication : Second press conference on largest drug seizure

The Myanmar government held its second press conference on the largest seizure of illegal drugs and drug-making materials. The event took place at Anisakan Airport in Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Region.

The briefing was led by Leader of Information Team of the National Defence and Security Council Deputy Minister for Information Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun and Chief of Myanmar Police Chief Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe, with representatives from government ministries, foreign diplomats, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and local and international media attending.

Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said the government considers drug control a national duty and is carrying out strong nationwide operations to stop drug production and trafficking. He also urged the public, media, NGOs, and local communities to report drug-related information to authorities in a timely manner.

Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe also explained that multiple drug production sites were found near Hsipaw and Mongyai Townships in northern Shan State through aerial surveillance and ground investigations. Drugs, chemicals, and equipment from these sites were destroyed between January 16 and 22. After the briefing, attendees viewed seized items, photos of drug labs, and records of the destruction of illegal drugs and materials.
