






A disaster management coordination meeting was held at Yangon Region Government Office on Tuesday as part of efforts to strengthen the region’s response capacity for natural disasters.
The meeting discussed preparedness plans and response measures covering search and rescue, transportation and communications, healthcare management, environmental protection, security, rehabilitation and reconstruction, emergency funding, and public information services.
It is learnt that the region has prepared 12 disaster response committees, over 1,600 rescue personnel, 52 Rapid Response Teams, five Emergency Operation Centers, and 112 temporary shelters capable of accommodating more than 47,000 people in the event of a natural disaster.
The exhibition at People's Square displayed rescue and emergency equipment including fire engines, ambulances, boats, heavy machinery, water transport vehicles, chainsaws, tents and other emergency supplies. Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu said the preparations are aimed at improving Yangon Region’s readiness and coordination in responding to potential natural disasters and emergency situations.
