Torrential rains and strong winds battered parts of the coast of the Indian state of Maharashtra on Wednesday. Cyclonic storm Nisarga made landfall along India's western coast, with winds of around 90 km per hour hitting the Maharashtra.

The cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea was very likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm later on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, predicting winds gusting up to 120 km per hour. Residents in Mumbai were bracing for the first ever cyclone to hit the city, staying indoors and scrambling to protect their homes before the storm struck. Authorities had evacuated more than 100,000 people in western coast.
