Cuba's national electric grid has faced a series of massive collapses and partial failures, driven by severe fuel shortages.

Cuba produces barely 40% of the fuel it needs and has struggled to secure consistent imports of oil due to tightened U.S. sanctions and tariff threats. While technicians have managed to bring the grid back online, power generation remains critically unstable, with millions of Cubans continuing to endure rolling blackouts and severe power rationing.

The country also experienced widespread, multi-day blackouts in October 2024 following grid failures and Hurricane Milton.
