COP15 climate conference wraps up in Abidjan

The fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) wrapped up in Abidjan on Friday after almost two weeks of talks.

COP15 brought together leaders from governments, the private sector, civil society and others from around the world to discuss how to protect the soils of the planet.

Desertification, land degradation and drought were key themes, with a target for finding sustainable solutions for land restoration.

The conference provided an opportunity to highlight the plight of the Ivory Coast's shrinking elephant population.

The deliberations that took place in Abidjan will be followed up during the next major UN climate meeting in Egypt later this year.
