Coordination Program: Preparatory measures for the deep depression

Vice Chairman of National Natural Disaster Management Committee, Union Minister for Social Wefare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine together with Deputy Minister U Aung Tun Khaing attended online coordination program on preparation for the depression over the Bay of Bengal at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC)on Monday.

At the event, the Union Minister said that they have been monitoring the depression since at the stage of low pressure area and the wind speed is getting stronger. Although the natural disasters can't be prevented, the damages can be minimized at least by taking necessary precautionary measures.

The Department of Disaster Management has already stockpiled relief supplies in its warehouses, but arrangements will be made in advance to have easy access to rice, instant noodles, eggs, sardines, clean water and water purification tablets.

It is necessary to make arrangement for the supply of emergency needs in the townships that can affect in the southern part of Ayeyawady and Yangon regions as well as Rakhine State that are the cyclone-prone routes according to the current forecast.

The Deputy Minister discussed paying attention on not to damage the stored relief items, duty assignment and preparations for labour, vehicles and machinery requirements to be sent relief items.

Later, officials reported preparatory measures for the storm in the respective regions, cyclone shelters as well as plan to provide tents and foodstuff.

Later in the evening, the Union Minister met Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi at the Minister's office. At the meeting, they discussed formation of committee and working committee for Rakhine State peace and development, completion of 7 projects that are undertaken with the cooperation of ASEAN in the Repatriation Program in Rakhine State, plan to hold the 4th High Level Officials Coordination meeting, training for capacity development of the service personnel not only in natural disasters but also in repatriation programs, analyzing the tasks for providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar through ASEAN and collecting fund for humanitarian assistance to Myanmar.
