The Chief Minister of Kachin State, U Khet Htein Nan, along with state government ministers, the secretary, and responsible officials from state-level departments, held a coordination meeting on Wednesday in the Malikha Hall of the State Government Office to discuss the possibility of extending the Myitkyina–Mohnyin–Mogaung railway service within the state.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that due to the destruction of railway tracks by insurgent groups, Myanmar Railways had to suspend services starting from August 2021. To ensure convenient and smooth transportation for local residents, the Myitkyina–Mohnyin railway section, spanning 36.75 miles, has been repaired and is now operational. He further explained that through joint efforts of the state government, the Northern Regional Military Command, and relevant departments, repairs on the Mohnyin–Mogaung railway section, which is 52.25 miles long, have so far been completed for 30.91 miles. Under the state government’s 100-day plan, the remaining repairs on the Mohnyin–Mogaung section will be completed, and once finished, railway services will be able to run from Myitkyina to Mohnyin and Mogaung.
Subsequently, officials from the Myanmar Railways Engineering Department presented updates on the 100-day repair plan for the railway section between Mohnyin and Mogaung stations, including the restoration of damaged bridges and the progress of ongoing work on the remaining sections. Attendees then discussed recommendations for resuming the Myitkyina–Mohnyin–Mogaung railway service, and the Chief Minister provided additional guidance and coordinated follow-up actions.
