




The opening ceremony of the coordination meeting on disaster management operations with domestic social organizations was held on January 27 at the assembly Hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win attended and delivered the opening address.
In his opening address, the Union Minister stated that this coordination meeting aims to meet with domestic organizations endorsed by the Department of Disaster Management for registration at the Union level. The purpose is to collaborate with the Ministry in reducing disaster risk among the public, enhancing disaster preparedness, systematic response, and promoting recovery and reconstruction efforts. He expressed gratitude and recognition for the participation of these organizations in past disaster response efforts within the country.
He urged them to pay special attention to ensuring that humanitarian assistance provided by each organization does not lead to undesirable situations or reach unintended places. He also called for ensuring that operational tasks are effective, systematic, and carried out in cooperation with the Ministry.
Subsequently, the second part of the coordination meeting was held. The Director General of the Department of Disaster Management explained the current procedures, ongoing tasks of the Department, and potential collaborative activities.
Afterwards, attending domestic social organizations explained their respective operational statuses group by group, and mutual discussions were held regarding conditions for jointly collaborating with the Department in disaster management operations.
Attending the coordination meeting were the Deputy Minister, Permanent Secretary, Directors General, and subject matter officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, as well as Chairpersons and executive committee members from domestic social organizations, it’s learnt.
