Coordination meeting: Meeting on production and operation of EV held

A policy coordination meeting on the production and operation of electric cars was held at the Ministry of Industry in the morning on April 22.

The Union Ministers, Admiral Tin Aung San, U Aung Than Oo, Dr. Charlie Than, Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, Deputy Ministers and officials from related ministries attended the meeting personally and the Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Maung Ko, chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee U Bo Htay, and chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee U Kyaw San, attended the meeting in a virtual system.

First, the Union Minister for Industry said that according to the instruction of the State Administration Council to import and produce electric vehicles and electric buses for short-distance urban operation for public transportation in Yangon and to invite the foreign direct investment, the ministry will carry out as the focal ministry to locally manufacturing electric vehicles.

Afterwards, Director-General of Industrial Cooperation Department, Ministry of Industry and responsible officials also discussed the development of electric vehicle policy in Myanmar, as well as joint policy recommendations for Myanmar.

Then, the Union Ministers; Deputy Ministers; Permanent Secretary of the Ministries; Director General and responsible persons discussed to provide assistance to each ministry for the speedy import of electric cars in Myanmar under the direction of the Chairman of the State Administrative Council.

After that, the Union Minister for Industry said that to implement the contents and policy recommendations of the EV Development Action Plan in line with the comments of the relevant ministries. He also said that a steering committee and a working committee will be formed to formulate policies for the development of the electric vehicle sector.
