The Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko held a coordination meeting with three representatives of All Myanmar Hindu Central Council (Temporary) led by Council Chairman U Kyaw Thu and three representatives of Thanantana Dhammapalaka (Hindu) Association led by Chairman U Maung Maung at the meeting hall of the ministry, Nay Pyi Taw on February 4.

In his opening remark at the meeting, the union minister said that in line with the Section-363 of State Constitution (2008) described that The Union may assist and protect the religions it recognizes to its utmost, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture will assist and protect the religions. This is a coordination meeting to form All Myanmar Hindu Central Council.

It was formed as of 1953. Due to not doing well within the council in 2003, the ministry had to negotiate but the settlement cannot be reached and the original council was abolished, then a temporary council had to be formed. The temporary council enabled to draft the council’s rules and regulations and form a central council election commission.

Those efforts are acknowledged by the ministry. Although the All Myanmar Hindu Central Council Election Commission had arranged to hold an election, it had to be suspended due to the objections regarding Central Council rules paragraph-22. Later, as the former temporary council chairman and secretary resigned, the council chaired by U Nanda was formed again.

That council was carrying out the arrangements to elect central council, it was again suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020. Now, as it’s time to resume the suspended election, two Hindu religious organizations are invited and held meeting. The proper persons will be invited in the next meetings.

All are requested to discuss openly and comprehensively for the requirements to form Hindu Central Council. Then, the attendees of Hindu religious organizations reported the matters on the Hindu religion, took part in the coordinated discussions to be able to form All Myanmar Hindu Central Council and meeting was concluded.
