Myanma Railways has reported increased passenger use of its Online Railways Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP), introduced to make ticket purchasing easier and more convenient.
Under the pilot project, online ticket sales began on February 1 for express passenger trains operating on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw–Mandalay route. Passengers can buy tickets seven days in advance for full journeys and three days in advance for trips from intermediate stations.
Since the launch, many passengers have used the system, and train ridership has increased. Myanma Railways said that as of February 1, a total of 87 tickets for eight express trains were purchased online in advance. All upper-class seats and more than 80 percent of first-class seats on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw–Yangon DEMU trains were sold online before departure.
Passengers needing assistance can contact the Myanma Railways call center at hotline number 1188. Information on how to use the system and train services is also shared on social media under “ORTP Info by Myanma Railways.” The ORTP system is being implemented under a public–private partnership and is currently operating as a pilot project on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw–Mandalay railway line.
