Conservation Measures : Maintenance of ancient monuments in Bagan

Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint, accompanied by concerned officials, inspected the conservation and maintenance of ancient monuments, waterways and reservoirs in the Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone on Friday.

During the visit, the Union Minister paid homage to Shwezigon Pagoda and inspected ongoing restoration works, historical inscriptions and heritage structures. He instructed officials to ensure quality conservation work, preserve the original architectural style and improve visitor information services.

The Union Minister also visited the Ywarhaunggyi Reservoir and the Ywarhaunggyi Buddhist Complex, where officials briefed on archaeological excavations and preservation efforts. He stressed the importance of continuing research, protecting excavated remains and ensuring long-term sustainability of the site.

In addition, the Union Minister inspected the maintenance of ancient reservoirs and restoration work at Dhammayangyi Temple and Sulamani Temple. He instructed officials to take preventive measures against flooding during the rainy season, maintain ancient drainage systems, repair damaged structures and keep heritage sites clean and accessible for local and international visitors.
