Community in Caracas brings films to marginalized hillsides

A neighborhood in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas has been hosting a film festival as part of its efforts to bring the people of city together through art.

Festival Director Reinaldo Mijares and his company have organized music and dance festivals, a route to bring in tourists and meet people in his beloved neighborhood.

The film festival aims to diversify the offer by displaying Venezuelan films not seen in commercial cinemas. During the festival, seven Venezuelan documentaries and six fiction films will be screened, competing for a prize of 1,000 USD.

The Embassy of Spain, being the main financier of the festival, will also award prizes. The festival also includes a photographic exhibition with images taken by the children of San Agustin who have taken part in photography and video workshops.
