Commemorative Event:200th anniversary of the founding of Sittwe

A commemorative event for 200th anniversary of the founding of Sittwe was held at Winkabar ground in Sittwe on Thursday. Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin and his wife, together with concerned officials, paid homage to Atulamarazein Pyilone Chanthar Pagoda and donated the cash to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

Then, the Chief Minister and officials cut the ribbons to inaugurate the ceremonial arch, marking the 200th anniversary celebration. Then, the ceremony continued with striking Rakhine traditional Mingalar Royal Drum, followed  by the performance of Rakhine cultural troupes. In his greetings, the Chief Minister wished for long lasting of the Sittwe City, with peace and prosperity of local residents.

He also urged to strive for turning out the talented youths whom can be relied by the state and the nation as well. Then, the awards were presented to the winners in Mini Marathon competition and Drawing contest. Following this, the Chief Minister and party toured the exhibition marking the 200th anniversary, which displays antique memoirs, poem and cartoon exhibition, exhibition of Archaeology and National Museum Department, arts gallery and souvenirs.

Charity foods were also donated free to the visitors, and morning meal was offered to the monks. On Janauary 21st, the Chief Minister attended the homage paying ceremony to mark 200th anniversary celebration, and donated cash assistance to the elders.
