The 28 policemen and military officer held hostage in a southwestern Colombia guerrilla enclave are released. The men, held since Thursday, collect their riot gear and leave along a dirt road, escorted by local residents.

They walk towards the nearby town of El Plateado, where a commission from the state Ombudsman's Office and United Nations receive them. The government said that the officers were being held by a dissident FARC guerrilla group.
