The world's largest clean energy corridor has achieved a remarkable milestone of generating over 1 billion kWh of electricity per day for three consecutive days, the China Three Gorges Corporation said on Friday. The corridor comprises the six mega hydropower stations on the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges Dam on the main stream of the Yangtze River.
With some 100 generating units in the corridor operating at full capacity, the electric power generated by the six mega hydropower stations per day is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption by 1.05 million people. Such a gigantic amount of power production is able to greatly alleviate the strained power supply in the east, south and central parts of the country, where electricity remains in high demand for busy economic activities.
