China's special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua held four hours of talks with his American counterpart John Kerry in Beijing on Monday.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry says climate change is a common challenge faced by everyone and that China and United States would exchange views on climate issues, working together to meet challenges and improve the wellbeing of current and future generations.

As part of its efforts to tackle climate change, China has pledged to hit its carbon dioxide emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. Chinese President Xi Jinping has also said China will scale down its use of coal from 2026.
