China reports 1,749 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, 136 new deaths

The Chinese health authorities said on Wednesday that 1,749 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and 136 deaths were reported on Tuesday from 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Another 1,185 new suspected cases were reported on Tuesday, the National Health commission said.

Also on Tuesday, 236 patients became seriously ill, 1,824 people were discharged from hospital after recovery, and 25,014 people who had close contacts with confirmed patients were discharged from medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 74,185, and 2,004 people had died of the disease. By the end of Tuesday, 94 confirmed cases had been reported in China's Hong Kong, Macao Special Autonomous Regions and Taiwan, with 62 in Hong Kong, including four discharged from hospital and one death; 10 in Macao, including five discharged from hospital; and 22 in Taiwan, including two discharged from hospital and one death.
