China on importance of China-France relations

President Emmanuel Macron met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday.

Xi greeted his guest on a huge red carpet lined by Chinese and French flags as the countries' national anthems played. Macron had said that Beijing can play a "major role" in finding a path to peace in the conflict and welcomed China's "willingness to commit to a resolution".

Macron also met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. During their meeting, Macron stressed the importance of dialogue between China and France "in these troubled times".Li said Macron was the first Western state leader received by Chinese President Xi Jinping after his re-election and the two leaders would have in-depth exchanges on “major global issues of joint concerns.”Li said he believed the meeting would yield “broad consensuses."
