China gears up for Winter OLY despite pandemic

China is continuing to gear up for the Winter Olympics with construction on all venues now complete, despite concerns of delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.  All 12 venues have completed construction and are ready for the Games, officials told reporters during a media tour on Tuesday.  China has mostly kept the coronavirus under control with the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy. 

The country has taken tough measures, including frequent lockdowns and mass testing, to handle domestic outbreaks.  Beijing is determined to prevent any public health risk caused by the Winter Olympics, which will be held inside bubbles, even with the arrival of the omicron variant in mainland China.
