China on Tuesday completed the first 3,000-meter deep-water stratigraphic structure mapping with data collected by the home-grown "Haijing" system from the water area nearly 500 kilometers south of Zhuhai City of the southern Guangdong Province.

The map offers a deeper understanding of the stratigraphic structure and preliminary determination of the offshore oil and gas potential, marking a major breakthrough in the development of core technology and equipment key to deep-sea oil and gas exploration in China.

Over a month ago, the vessel, Haiyang Shiyou 720 deployed the "Haijing" system, a marine seismic exploration and acquisition equipment using submarine cables, to 3,000 meters below the sea. During the mission, the system carried out data collection work covering an area of 2,500 square kilometers along the designated route. The exploration was completed on Tuesday morning.
