Exquisite flower decorations, fluttering national flags, and illuminating light shows have all added to the festive atmosphere across China as the annual Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays are around the corner.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, has been observed by people of Chinese origin for thousands of years, usually marked by family reunions, a full moon viewing and the consumption of mooncakes.
It falls on Friday this year, two days ahead of the National Day on October 1. This year, the Chinese people will enjoy an eight-day break as the two festivals are in tandem to make up a holiday season, which extends from Sept 29 to Oct 6.
