Chile's left-wing Interior Minister Carolina Toha resigned late Tuesday in order to run for president in November's elections in which the right is tipped to return to power. "
The moment has come to launch another political struggle, which is to run for president of the Republic," Toha said after handing over the interior portfolio to Alvaro Elizalde, previously the secretary general of the presidency. Chile’s first round presidential vote will be on Nov. 16 and a run-off, if needed, would take place on Dec. 14.
