Children’s tea ceremony

Young children in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, have been given an opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. About 180 5-year-olds from nine local kindergartens and childcare centers took part in the event.

Each participant tried preparing tea in a bowl using a bamboo whisk.The children enjoyed butterfly-shaped sweets made from wasanbon, a fine-grained Japanese sugar, before drinking the bowl of tea in the traditional manner.
