A wide range of events are underway across China to celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival, which falls on Friday this year. In east China Province, there were Lianhuo performances, also known as "fire-walking," marking the traditional custom of celebrating family reunions.
Lianhuo has been added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Performers of Lianhuo walk barefoot across burning coals, stirring up the fire during the performance in order to ward off evil spirits and praying for good fortune. In ancient town of east China Province, a wide variety of folk activities are underway in celebration of the traditional Chinese festival. Colorful lanterns, tasty foods, firework displays and traditional opera performances have all left deep impressions on tourists traveling to the ancient town.
