Carbon Reduction in ASEAN: AEC Council Meeting and related meetings held virtually

According to the 21st AEC Council Meeting hosted by Cambodia, the AEC Council Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Ministers’ Assembly on Energy, Transport,  Agriculture and Forestry  was held virtual format on Wednesday, Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San participated in the meeting.

The ASEAN energy ministers, Transport Ministers, Agriculture and Forestry Ministers and ASEAN Secretary General discussed drafting stragetic plan for carbon reduction in ASEAN, sectoral cooperation, duty assignment and adopting guidance.

At the meeting, Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San discussed implementation of transport sector development in Myanmar in line with the Myanmar National Transport Master Plan, adopting  Myanmar’s Climate Change policies and strategies to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals and measures for carbon reduction in transportation for conservation of natural environment.

The Union Minister also made suggestions on reduction of carbon emission and green house gas emission in transportation sector, the needs for cooperation in the program and human resource development. The meeting was attended by Economic Ministers, Agriculture and Forestry Ministers, Transport Ministers and Energy Ministers from ASEAN member states. Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun and officials also took part in the meeting.
