Capacity-Building Legal Training: Capacity-building legal training for Hluttaw Reps. opened

The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker, U Khin Yi, attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of a capacity-building legal training course for Hluttaw representatives, held Tuesday afternoon at the B-annex hall of the Pyithu Hluttaw building in Nay Pyi Taw.

First, the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker stated that during the tenure of the third Hluttaw term, consultations and deliberations are being undertaken to implement measures for enhancing the role of the Hluttaw. He emphasized that efforts will be made step by step to ensure transparency in the Hluttaw's functions, representativeness of the people, alignment with international parliamentary standards, broader engagement, and to become a modern parliament as a symbol of democracy.

He also said that at the same time, the aim is to improve the subject-specific competencies and ethical standards of the Hluttaw representatives, who are the primary supporters of the Hluttaw's functions. He added that the objective of this training course is to develop qualified Hluttaw representatives who can effectively carry out the legislative, representative, and oversight responsibilities in accordance with modern systems.

The opening ceremony was attended by the chairpersons, secretaries, and members of committees from both the Pyithu Hluttaw and the Amyotha Hluttaw, as well as responsible officials from the Pyithu Hluttaw Office. Afterward, legal expert Daw Than Than Yi delivered a lecture on the drafting of the Myanmar Gems Law (4/2019) and the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council Law (1/2019). The attending representatives then raised questions regarding matters they wished to know, based on the discussions and presentations, it’s reported.
