Canadian prime minister announces resignation

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday his resignation from the position he had held since November 2015.

He said he would remain in his position until his successor is appointed. He asked the governor to “prorogue” or suspend parliament until March 24. General elections previously scheduled for October would be held in the coming weeks, he added.
