Canada and the European Union launched the Alliance for the Future at the 21st EU-Canada Summit in Montreal on Friday, forming a strategic partnership to boost economic security and technological ties.

Brussels and Ottawa signed an agreement allowing the European Investment Bank to back Canadian critical mineral projects to build resilient supply chains. Moreover, the partners signed a digital trade deal and launched a framework to collaborate on safe AI systems and industrial technologies.

Canada and the EU are working toward deeper institutional alignment, including a June 2027 deadline to outline terms for a closer association, alongside Canada's future participation in the Erasmus+ youth program and the Galileo satellite system.
