


Myanmar annually grows about 15 million acres of monsoon paddy and over 2 million acres of summer paddy for local food sufficiency and promoting export.
The government also provides Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) for boosting per acre yields for the farmers. By applying this GAP method, the model plantations which yield over 100 baskets per acre are being implemented in 10 regions and states.
In Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, 100-acre model plantation of monsoon paddy has been implemented by providing technology and inputs to the farmers. Over 170,000 acres of monsoon paddy plantations have been grown in Nay Pyi Taw this year, and more than 70,000 acres have already been harvested so far.
On Wednesday, the harvesting ceremony of the model plantation was held in Dekkhina Thiri Township, with the attendance of Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Maung Maung Naing, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi, and officials. The model planation in Dekkhina Thiri Township was grown with Manaw Thukha paddy species, and it yields 133 basket of raw paddy per acre and 115 basket of dried paddy per acre.
