Blinken speaks at joint briefing with Merkel

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday thanked German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her "remarkable leadership," saying "the US has no better partner, no better friend in the world than Germany". Emphasising the need for cooperation and multilateralism in addressing the world's challenges, from COVID-19, to climate change and new technologies, Blinken praised Germany's role in setting an example on various fronts. US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said "I think we also agree that we have a responsibility, particularly in this moment, to demonstrate that democracies can deliver, deliver in the lives of our people, deliver for people around the world.

After Germany, Blinken will visit France and Italy as part of his weeklong tour, his first trips to all three nations as secretary of state.
