U.S. President Joe Biden met Tuesday with New Zealand Prime Minister JacindaArdern in the Oval Office, telling her he wants to pick her brain on her government's efforts to combat extremism and gun violence, following the mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York. The talks between Biden and Ardern were to center on trade, counterterrorism, and security in the Indo-Pacific but the two leaders’ starkly different experiences in pushing for gun control loomed large in the background.Ardern successfully pushed for gun control measures in her country after the mass shootings at mosques by a white supremacist in the city of Christchurch in 2019, including a ban on military-style semiautomatic weapons that left more than 51 dead.
