A large number of pilot whales were helped back into deep water by beachgoers on Tuesday after finding themselves stranded on a beach on St. Simons Island in Georgia.

Video shows beachgoers pushing the pilot whales away from the shore. Nearly 50 whales swam into the shallow waters near St. Simons, where three died despite rescue efforts, according to a spokesperson from the state's Department of Natural Resources.
