Bangkok has opened 304 “BKK Cooling Centers” across the city to provide relief from extreme heat. The centers are located in district offices, health clinics, and vocational schools, offering air-conditioned spaces and drinking water.
They operate daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., during peak temperatures and UV intensity. The initiative uses existing public facilities rather than installing new air-conditioning units to minimize energy costs. The city is also working on long-term heat mitigation by analyzing urban heat islands and expanding green spaces.
Plans include planting 2.4 million trees and developing 400 new parks to lower overall city temperatures. The centers aim to support outdoor workers and residents in poorly ventilated housing.
