Attempts To Break Prison: Prison Superintendent Restored Normalcy Of Prison

A group included about 50 prison lock-ups and prisoners in Kalay prison seized three officers including prison superintendent, deputy superintendent and deputy supervisor and attempted to escape from the prison in the evening on 15th March.

While prison personnel led by the prison superintendent and deputy superintendent held meeting on the social issues at the office for maintenance of discipline, a group included about 50 persons from No.5 prison cell led by Ban Dane held the prison superintendent assistant director U Kyaw Thu, deputy superintendent staff officer U Cho Min Latt and deputy supervisor U Yan Paing Myo as hostages and attempted to escape from the prison.

When the prison breakers seized the officers, the superintendent fought back against them and freed from their capture and he reached the main guard tower and gave order  them to release two officers and return to the prison cell repeatedly through hand speaker.  As they did not comply with the order, three warning shots with MA-11 gun fired into the sky.

Again, as they still resisted, they were given warning shots to the lower part of the group and shots left 12 injures and 7 deaths including 6 lock-ups and one prisoner. During the warning shots fired, the deputy superintendent and deputy supervisor freed from their hold and the prisoners returned to their cell and the injured persons admitted the hospital cell.

The incident can be controlled at about 5:40 p.m.

Under the hostage, deputy supervisor who sustained minor cut injuries at left part of throat and chin was admitted to the Kalay People’s Hospital and the prison restored normalcy and the prison’s routine works are being operated normally, it’s reported.
