Athletes' village for Universiade opens to public

The athletes' village for the upcoming Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games officially opens on Saturday, with a colorful welcome ceremony for the first guests to the village.

The long-awaited 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games, known as the Universiade, will be held in Chengdu City of southwest China's Sichuan Province between July 28 and Aug 8, after previously being postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.

Athletes from around 170 countries and regions are set to attend. The athletes' village, situated on campus of Chengdu University, has students' dormitories re-purposed as athletes' rooms, while university hospitals will serve as medical centers and doping control stations during the Games.

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 student volunteers have moved into the village to serve the college student athletes from around the world until Aug 11.
