Asia-Pacific Regional Seminar: Discussion on International Code for the Protection of Tourists

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Seminar on International Code for the Protection of Tourists via online on Thursday.

The seminar was organized by World Tourism Organization (WTO) in Madrid of Spain, and it aims to provide assistance to the member countries in resuming tourism industry and to draft the international code and legal framework for protection of the tourists during the emergency condition like the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Director of WTO Asia and Europe Regions and experts from the Committee on International Code for the Protection of Tourists discussed and reviewed on the international codes. Union Minister Dr Htay Aung discussed that the necessary policies, laws and frameworks have been adopted in Myanmar for providing better services for the local and foreign tourists.

Efforts are being made for gaining the trust of tourists and re-development of tourism in the post COVID-19 period. He added that the international code for protection of tourists that has been drafted by WTO could help in gaining back the trust of tourists and hoped all the member countries will abide by the norms.
