ASEAN Affairs: 40th Senior Officials Meeting On Energy

The 40th Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) and Associated Meetings chaired by Cambodia through videoconferencing began on June 28. Head of the Myanmar Energy delegation to ASEAN Director-General of the Department of Oil and Gas Management U Win Maw attended the meeting.

At the meeting, issues related to energy sector development for the development of the ASEAN region, cooperation between the ASEAN member countries to use clean energy in energy development, reduce carbon emissions, save energy and have energy security, increase renewable energy consumption and harmonize energy consumption standards were discussed.

The meeting also discussed implementations of the ASEAN Plan of Actions for Energy Cooperation (APAEC Phase II (2021-2025)) in 2021, current and further plans in 2023, and plans of the ASEAN energy cooperation sub-sectors. ASEAN dialogue partners: Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States also attended the meeting to discuss the past and future cooperation in the energy sector between ASEAN plus 3 and ASEAN and East Asia. The 40th ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting on Energy and Associated Meetings is set to be held till July 1.
