Aircrews aid firefighting effort on N. California blazes

Crews in the air and on the ground continued to battle wildfires burning in an area of Northern California on Wednesday.

Evacuation orders were issued for residents near Lakehead, Caifornia. Another wildfire that has put thousands of people under evacuation in the region grew substantially, but firefighters had some success against the flames, authorities said. Burning in the shadow of the towering Mount Shasta volcano, the Lava Fire was ignited by lightning last week. Shasta-Trinity National Forest said, the fire covered more than 27 square miles but crews made good progress on the western edge of the fire, cutting off progression into the communities.
