






Efforts are underway to expand cotton cultivation in Magwe Region.
On May 7, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Ye Tint Tun met with departmental personnel, cotton mill owners and cotton farmers in Minbu Township.
He outlined to grow 80% local species of long staple cotton and 20% imported extra long staple cotton in order to meet the demands of raw materials for agro-based MSME businesses and producing high quality cotton thread. He also stressed to organized demonstration plot for dissemination of technology.
The Deputy Minister later met with departmental officials at Regional Agricultural Department and discussed detailed arrangements for boosting targeted yields and data accuracy as well as using quality oil crop species and producing value added products. In the afternoon, the Deputy Minister visited a pesticide factory, and cotton seed production process in Magwe.
